I am Roodeney Barionette, I come from Haiti, formerly nicknamed “The Pearl of the Antilles”.
You know! In my native land, we have a tropical climate which allows us to enjoy the sunlight, especially with our beautiful beaches.
Let me also tell you, with the high temperatures due to the climate crisis, my community is suffering from intense heat waves. Every day in my community I assist children with breathing difficulties, adults who often faint, street vendors, taxi drivers, who face the intense heat of the day.
As a climate activist, it is very important to me to help my fellow human beings adapt to intense heat, because as a human, watching loved ones die from the heat is truly sad. I dream of living in a community where there are lots of trees, urban agriculture practices and a really attractive landscape to improve the living environment.
I have already made my contribution to my community by training around 800 school children on adaptation measures to global warming and I subsequently planted the courtyard of a school with trees, grass and ornamental plants.
This story I just shared about my community is similar to the reality of many other Caribbean communities. In this sense, we need the necessary support to put in place resilient structures in our communities in order to fight against heat waves.
If you want to be an actor of change in this cause for vulnerable communities, join us and let’s fight global warming together!
